More about the tour:
Let’s start this way...
After you meet with our representative at the agreed location we’re going on the 30-minute ride to the old town of Budva. Our first photo stop during this day trip is made in Budva Riviera. Budva Riviera is the center of Montenegrin tourism and is known for its sandy beaches and nightlife.
In addition to its natural beauty, its bay, islands and beaches, Budva is rich in historic monuments. The Old Town lies on a small peninsula and represents a treasure chest of cultural heritage.
In Budva, we stay for an hour. Then, we have an hour drive through the village Brajici, above Budva Riviera, where we stop a few times to enjoy the view and make a few more photos of Budva, St. Stefan and Budva’s beaches.
While driving towards the town of Rijeka Crnojevica and climbing to the inside of Montenegro we can see fortress Kosmač erected by the Austrians on the border crossing between Austria and Montenegro in the nineteenth century.
Rijeka Crnojevica is a picturesque place where like nowhere else we see an amazing connection between history and nature. In Rijeka Crnojevica there was winter home of the famous Montenegrin dynasty Petrovic because this place has a little wind, and the air is even milder than on the coast. The town was once the strongest market in this part of the Balkans.
From this small forgotten town, we're going to Cetinje with a short break for taking photos and enjoying the view of the Skadar Lake and Rijeka Crnojevica. The drive will take about 30minutes.
The moment you enter the city it is clear that this it is something special. It shines with history and art, and how could it not when it contains all the greatest art academies.
One can write for days about Cetinje and Njegusi, and for that reason, we will try only to evoke a little bit in the following lines...
Cetinje, as the capital of the country over the past five centuries, was and remained a cultural and educational center of the Montenegrin state.
Because of its authentic architecture and a large number of historic buildings, relics, monasteries, churches, and museums, the city was named "museum city"
One of the most important Orthodox monasteries is settled here in the town. Cetinje Monastery is a Serbian Orthodox monastery, built in 1701. There are several relics in the monastery: Remains of St Petar of Cetinje, the Right hand of John the Baptist, Particles of the True Cross, the Icon of the Philermos Mother of God.
Before we head to Cetinje, of the sights in Cetinje we will mention also Billiard of Njegos (Biljarda).
Petar II Petrović Njegoš was a Prince-Bishop of Montenegro and the Serbian Orthodox Metropolitan of Cetinje, a philosopher, and poet, whose work is considered responsible for the modernization of Montenegro. Njegoš is considered one of the greatest Montenegrin poets.
Njegos`s residence, known as Billiard is built in 1838. The Billiard House has 25 rooms, 11 of which are on the ground floor and 14 on the first floor...
After a 40-minute visit to Cetinje, where you can have a free walk, it’s time to move towards Njegusi, the native village of Petar II Petrovic Njegoš and other great figures of the Petrovic dynasty. The panoramic drive will take about 2 hours.
Most interesting about this ride are famous 25 serpentines. Each of those serpentines provides a breathtaking and spectacular view on Boka bay and Njegos`s mausoleum on Mount Lovcen which is one of 5 National Parks of Montenegro.
Njegusi is far known and for their Montenegrin specialties that are characteristic of this region: ham, cheese, kastradina, mead ... Among the many households that offer these and other specialties stand out the bar-restaurant called "Kod Pera". Here you can visit the smokehouse and try local brandy- Rakija-Loza, wine and beer.
Beautiful views are always the most difficult to describe and how that barely manage many poets we'll just leave that part of the story as a surprise for you. After 2 hours drive, we arrive in front of the walls of the Old Town of Kotor and prolong towards the town of Perast. Perast is a sleepy baroque city not far away from Kotor. The most beautiful buildings of this small city were built in 17 and 18 century.
Especially interesting is an island near the city named Gospa od Skrpjela, the only artificially constructed island in the Adriatic Sea and church on the island, built in 1667...
This day trip we are finishing near Old Town of Kotor. A great number of historical monuments have made Kotor a UNESCO listed "World Natural and Historical Heritage Site"...
